So I don’t usually post about these topics on my blog, but I found an easy way to improve your writing and grammar. I just had to share.
Now I’m not a great writer. I’m continuously making all kinds of mistakes. Even when I reread what I’ve written there are still many errors. This resource has been so helpful in helping me correct the mistakes I missed when checking on my own.
I know that we as bloggers, students, entrepreneurs, etc. want our writing to look its best. And for some of us, that can be a challenge. So I had to share.
You know how when you watch YouTube videos, and there are those annoying ads before the video. This was one of those ads, but I was so intrigued I decided not to skip it. Then downloaded the app immediately after.
Grammarly has this great feature that helps you correct your writing without even having to leave the page you’re typing on, and it’s free. The free version Checks 100 grammar points, spelling, and punctuation. They do have a premium version that’s only $11.99/ month. On the premium version, they check over 250 grammar points, sentence structure, plagiarism detection, and it has a Microsoft Office add-on and more.
This App from Grammarly is more than just a spell checker. Also, it does more than just correct your mistakes it also tells you why it’s wrong, and that can help you improve your writing.
Now I will go over the basics of how it works.
To start off, you’ll want to go to grammarly.com and create an account. Once you’ve done that you will need to download the app, it works with google chrome, safari, and firefox. You can even use it on your desktop. It works for both Microsoft and IOS.
From there you just start typing. It could be on Facebook, Youtube comments, or on WordPress for your blog. I’m currently using WordPress.
As you type, you will notice a few things. Any misspelled words will be underlined in red. Also in the bottom right-hand corner there is either a green or red circle. The green circle means there are no mistakes, and the red one will have the number of errors the program has found.
If you hover over the words underlined in red, you will get options on what the program thought you meant to spell.
You can either choose one of their options, add the word to your dictionary, click Correct With Grammarly, or ignore. If you click Correct With Grammarly, a new screen will come up. This screen is the Grammarly app. Anything you change or type on the screen will automatically change in the original text.
While this screen is open, you now have more options on what you can do. You can correct your writing, check for plagiarism, and enhance vocabulary. All of those options are on the left-hand side of the screen.
On the right-hand side are all of your mistakes. You can either correct your mistake by typing it yourself or by clicking on the options given. If you click on a green word, it will replace your original word. The arrow down will give you more information on your mistake. The X will ignore the mistake.
My favorite feature out of all of those is that they give you more information on your error. After you click the down arrow for more information, there is another “more” option, and it gives examples on the right and wrong way to correct your mistake. That way I know what I did wrong and can try to avoid it later. Now I’m not just correcting my mistakes I’m also learning how to write better.
To exit out of the app, you can just click in the dark area off to the side or click the icon in the top left corner.
So those are the basics. Just remember it’s still important for you to read over your writing after you’ve finished.I’m so excited to be using this app. I can see my writing improving already. If you have any questions or would like me to explain anything else, please let me know.
